NJ Play Sports General Rules (All Programs)

Game Time Rules:

You can find all the information regarding game times, dates, locations, and opponents by visiting the league schedule. You can access your schedule by visiting your player page OR locating the correct league HERE.

A TEN (10) minute grace period is given to teams if they need a little more time for players to make it to the game. The game clock may still start at the scheduled  start time; however, the game clock will start no later than the conclusion of the grace period.

Rosters:

Each team can have as many players as they choose as long as they meet the league fee and gender specific qualifications. The roster deadline for every league is the night before the last regular season game. Once the last regular season game is played, no changes may be made to the schedule.

*NJ Play Sports does reserve the right to make an exception for extreme cases, in order to avoid forfeits.

Roster Checks:

Roster checks will be conducted before the start of every game. Substitutes are allowed during the regular season.

RULES REGARDING SUBS/GUEST PLAYERS

All teams using subs/guest players must meet the following requirements:

- At least 50% of the players on the team MUST BE ON THE ROSTER

- You may have no more than 1 bench player available, if you are inviting subs/guest players to the game.

*If you and your teammates are unable to field a team within these requirements, we still invite you to participate in an unofficial scrimmage against your scheduled opponent, at the scheduled time.

SEE ALL RULES REGARDING SUBS/GUESTS HERE.

If a team wishes to protest a roster, they must do so before half-time.

Forfeits:

If you know you may not be able to field a full team, please let us know at least 48 hours in advance and we will try our best to reschedule your game and avoid a forfeit:

Set Up

  • 2 on 2 format
  • 2 players required to start a game.  No warm-up time will be provided.
  • Teams play 2 best-of-three sets to 21 with teammates positioned on opposite ends of boards, followed by one final game to 21. Both best of the sets and final "game" are valued as 1 point each. (3 winning points available each week)
  • Games will be up to 21 using cancellation scoring. Teams are allowed to go over 21, without being penalized.
  • Teams are responsible for keeping their own score on provided sheets - games are self scored and officiated.
  • Rock, paper, scissor or coin flip will determine which team goes first in the first game. The winning team will go first in the following games and sets.
  • If a team wins the first 2 games of a set they won't play the 3rd game.
  • All 3 sets will be played and count in team standings.
  • When there are 10 minutes remaining, the game will switch to rally scoring.

Scoring

  • Getting a bag in the hole is worth 3.
  • Getting a bag on the board is worth 1.
  • Cancelation scoring example: Team 1 lands 1 bag on the board and two bags in the hole (7 points). Team 2 lands 3 bags in the board and no bags in the hole (3 points). Team 1 will receive 4 points and Team 2 will receive 0 points. If switching to rally scoring in the last 10 minutes, every point will count and cancelation will no longer take place.
  • If both teams go over 21 in the same game during rally scoring, the team with more points wins
  • If both teams hit 21 or more in the same game during rally scoring, it is a tie.

Illegal Throws

  • Foot Fault - Throwing while a foot is in front of the board
  • Bouncing a bag onto the board of the ground, wall or any other object.
  • Leaner - If a bag is on the board but also touching the ground. In all cases the illegally thrown bag will be removed from the board and no points will count for that throw. The bag MUST be removed before the next throw is made

Standings/Ranking

  • Ranking Points (Win: 3, Tie:1, Loss: 0) --- All three sets count each week.
  • Win Percentage
  • Head to Head
  • Points Against
  • Power Index (Strength of Schedule Metric)
  • If none of the above tie breakers resolve seeding issues there will a coin toss to break the tie
